Our BDIHM students recently brought the festive spirit of Chinese New Year to life with a vibrant cultural celebration. As part of their event management module, students were divided into two teams, each tasked with organizing a unique Chinese New Year-themed event. From start to finish, both teams showcased their creativity, teamwork, and organizational skills by planning a variety of engaging activities for their peers.
Learning Outcomes:
- Develop an understanding of different cultures, identities, and the nuances of cross-cultural communication.
- Learn to navigate cultural differences with theoretical tools, and explore diverse ways of managing and embracing global diversity.
- Gain foundational knowledge in cross-cultural management, including the skills needed to handle multicultural teams and navigate international negotiations.
Learning Objectives: This module sharpens students’ event planning, leadership, problem-solving, budgeting, and logistical skills, while offering practical experience in designing, executing, and evaluating successful events. The focus is on preparing students for dynamic careers in event management and related fields.
During the celebration, students explored Chinese culture through a variety of hands-on activities such as mastering the art of calligraphy, crafting lanterns, competing in a chopstick challenge, and diving into the meaning behind the Chinese zodiac. This immersive experience not only deepened cultural appreciation but also encouraged networking and bonding among students from different programs.
For our BDIHM students, this event was a chance to enhance leadership and collaboration skills while receiving valuable guidance. The experience allowed them to refine their abilities in event management, teamwork, and cross-cultural appreciation—essential skills for thriving in today’s diverse world.
