The Certificate in English (Basic) is an introductory language course designed to build foundational English communication skills for learners with limited proficiency. The course focuses on essential grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills needed for everyday communication and further language development.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the course, learners will be able to:
- Understand and use basic English vocabulary and simple grammatical structures
- Communicate in simple spoken English for everyday situations
- Read and comprehend short, basic texts and instructions
- Write simple sentences and short paragraphs with basic coherence
- Listen and respond to straightforward spoken English

1. The writing module enhances students’ writing skills enabling them to write essays particular to the level of English they are studying; students should be able to plan essays, write with good pace, detect mistakes and make corrections accordingly.
2. This speaking module allows students to communicate effectively in English; students learn pronunciation, stress and intonation, develop the ability to articulate sentences and hold a conversation, practice speaking for real life scenarios; they will develop general, social and professional use of spoken English; students will develop stronger confidence and ability to deliver presentations.
1. The reading module supports students’ reading skills allowing them to skim and detect the main idea of a passage, scan text for specific information, make inferences, paraphrase, and summarise.
2. The listening module develops students’ listening skills to enable them to listen for specific information, make and confirm predictions, listen for reasons and make and explain inferences.
