Exploring the Supreme Court with VATEL students – 16 Sept 2017

Yesterday MBA VATEL students went on an exciting excursion to the Supreme Court this morning. The Supreme Court of the Republic of Singapore is one of the two tiers of the court system in Si ngapore , the other tier being the State Courts . It is made up of the Court of Appeal and the High Court, and hears both civil and criminal matters. In connection with their Business Law class, this fun-filled and extremely interesting excursion allowed VATEL students to understand business legislation in Singapore, and to experience Singapore’s court system and the role of the Supreme Court.

One of the tour highlights was the supreme court gallery where students read about the development and milestones of Singapore’s judiciary history, and view rare artefacts like the court document seal machine and Judges’ robes. Students even sat through an engaging criminal case in a mock setting. Students even given opportunities to engage in role-play of
the mock trial.

Such excursions are integral effective to motivate students, engage them in active learning experiences, and allow students to acquire direct source of knowledge. Students left the Supreme Court feeling enthusiastic and inspired to learn more about business law.
