SISH Alumni Spotlight: Min Khant Kyaw (Steven)

In today’s alumni spotlight, we catch up with one of our SISH alumni, Min Khant Kyaw (Steven) (Advanced Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism Management, Class of 2017), who is currently working as a freelance Digital Marketer, and an English teacher at a Higher Education Institution in Myanmar.

What is a specific moment in the classroom or during the application process where you knew you were on a path to your future career?

I had a lot of amazing experiences with SISH Institute! We are not only trained in theoretical knowledge, but we also have practical lessons in the context of real-world situations.

I recall organising a themed restaurant with my fellow classmates. We got a specific space to set up the restaurant, and we had to decorate the restaurant, set up the tables, design the menu, and prepare the food.

We got the chance to invite our parents and our lecturers as well! This was a great practical training experience for us as we had to serve the invited guests as to how it goes in real-life restaurant businesses.

What was the most memorable part of your education?

The most memorable part of my studies will be my internship at JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa. I am really glad that the school helped me with the process and was there to support me throughout the journey of my internship program in Thailand. During my internship, I realised the classes I took previously had prepared me in communication and organisational skills, and other skill sets to work in the hotel and alongside other international trainees from the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia.

How do you feel you are better prepared for your future career?

With the current skills I have, in combination with my academic background and work experiences, I believe that I am competent! With the rapidly changing technologies, industry demands, and necessary skill sets one is needed to have,  I make myself ready everyday even if the world is in bad or good situations.

What advice would you offer to current and future students?

I would like to remind our current students at SISH Institute not to give up even if they are facing obstacles in their studies or planning for future careers or further studies. You have a lot of alumni graduate students to look up and the schools are always there for you to counsel with your future plans. Believe me, Service, Hospitality, and Tourism Industry will never disappear from this world. With passion and determination, you can get many amazing opportunities if you believe in your own abilities!
